⚡Quick verdict

On a Fire TV Stick, turn on Developer options, allow the Downloader app to install apps, use it to fetch a player such as IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate from its maker's site, then enter the three Xtream Codes details we sent. Allow ten minutes start to finish. Players already in the Amazon Appstore can be installed directly, with no Downloader step.

  • Developer options are hidden: click your stick's name in About seven times.
  • Works on Fire OS sticks; the Vega OS Fire TV Stick 4K Select cannot sideload.
  • A 4K or 4K Max stick handles big playlists faster than the Lite.

Step 1: let the stick install apps

  1. From the home screen, open Settings (the gear icon), then My Fire TV.
  2. If you see Developer options, go to step 4.
  3. If not: open About, highlight your stick’s name and click it seven times.
  4. In Developer options, turn on Install unknown apps for Downloader (it appears once Downloader is installed, so you may come back here).

Step 2: install Downloader

  1. Go to Find, then Search, and type Downloader.
  2. Install the orange Downloader app by AFTVnews.
  3. Return to Developer options and allow it to install unknown apps.

Step 3: install the player app

  1. Open Downloader and allow access to files if asked.
  2. In the address box, type the download address published on the player app’s own website.
  3. When the file downloads, choose Install, then Done, then delete the installer file to save space.

If you chose a player that is in the Amazon Appstore, search for it and install it there instead.

Step 4: sign in

  1. Open the player and choose to add a playlist or user.
  2. Pick Xtream Codes (sometimes called “Xtream Codes API”).
  3. Enter the server, username and password from our message.
  4. Wait for channels, guide and films to load. The first time can take a couple of minutes.

If something goes wrong

Problem Fix
“Install blocked” Allow Downloader under Install unknown apps
Downloader says file not found Check the address on the app maker’s site, letter by letter
Sign-in fails Add http:// and the port to the server; check capitals
Picture stutters See buffering fixes; try an Ethernet adapter

Whether a “jailbroken” stick is legal is a fair question, and we answer it in its own page.

More questions

Developer options are missing from my Fire Stick. Where are they?
Go to Settings, My Fire TV, About, and click the name of your device seven times. A message says you are now a developer, and Developer options appear in the My Fire TV menu.
Is it safe to allow apps from unknown sources?
It is safe if you only install well-known apps from their makers' own sites. Allow it for Downloader alone, not for every app.
Which Fire Stick should I buy for IPTV?
Go for the 4K Max if you can: it has the most memory and the fastest Wi-Fi. The 4K is fine for most homes. Avoid the Lite if you have a 4K TV or a big channel list.
